First of all, I have read the book and I totally agree with you. I think it was really hard to translate into a movie, indeed. I never said canadian movies were all good - and don’t get me started on french movies…… I just think that the lovely bones (the movie) was something 13 year old girls who see everything in an over-dramatic way (and believe me, I’ve been there) would enjoy. I think they chose the easy way, which was making it cliché, while it could have had much more depth. That’s all.
